Notes |
- Nicolas Sararas, "the old pioneer, was a descendant of some noble Huguenot family who was born in April, 1751. When some twenty years of age he was married to Mary Livergood, sister to old Jacob Livergood. She was also a native of North Carolina where she was born May 8th, 1752, and died at Freeport, Ontario, March 24th, 1832. In 1796 they left their native state and moved north to Pennsylvania where they sojourned until 1801 or 1802, then, with others they moved to Canada and settled on the west bank of Grand River, Waterloo County, Ontario, near the village of Freeport, on the farm now owned by George Becker. He died June 10th, 1836. To them were born several children, the names of only three were received"
Eby, Ezra E. (1895). A biographical history of Waterloo township and other townships of the county: being a history of the early settlers and their descendants, mostly all of Pennsylvania Dutch origin: as also much other unpublished historical information chiefly of a local character. Berlin [Kitchener, Ont.]: [s.n.].

[There is much discussion about the birthplace of Nicholas. Ezra Eby in 1896 indicated that the family was from North Caroline, other claim Pennsylvania and still others Frei-Laubersheim, Alsace Lorraine, Germany. Unfortunately, no concrete proof has yet been found]
