- Death of George Goddard
Goddard
In Ayr, on Friday, Feb. 14, 1908, George Goddard, in his 82nd year. - Mr. Geo. Goddard was born in Vernham, Hampshire, England, in the year 1826. His usual employment was that of gardener. For some time before leaving England he worked on the noted Druce Estate. He often talked about the under ground buildings and roads on the Estate. Some 30 years ago Mr. Goddard, with his wife and family of three children, came to Canada, settling in Ayr, where he had resided ever since. He was in the employ of the Messrs. Watson for nine years. He also had charge of our beautiful cemetery for a time, and was quite an efficient man. He was a staunch temperance man and in religion a Methodist. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Miss Annie, a brother also survives. Among friends present from a distance were: Mrs. F. Stent, Mr. Wm. Goddard, Toronto; Miss Clara Reynolds, Paris; Mr. Arthur Cooper, Brantford. The pall bearers were Messrs. J. W. Hunt. J. J. Hodgson, A. O. Nickerson, D. S. Cullen, John Ennis, Adam Allan. The services were conducted by Revs. T. H. Ibbott and D. I. Ellison.
