  • Notes
    • Alex Murdoch came here from St. Marys about 1870 to learn the Blacksmithing trade with James P. Johnston and after his time was out he continued with Mr. Johnston until 1874. Afterwards, he started business on his own in the shop on Cooper Street and there remained until 1886 when he sold out to William Wingfield and went west.

During at least the five years - 1882-1886 - his brother, Andrew, worked with him and in 1886 there was still another brother, John Murdoch, here who too was a blacksmith. A sister, Jane, worked for Randall Farr & Co. for three years prior to her marriage to Robert Hammersley on New Year's Day, 1874.
