Notes |
- Helena Feasby was born in York County. A rural school teacher for thirty-four years, she recognized the need for education for adults as well as children, and promoted the formation of branches of the Women's Institute. She founded and was the first president of the Centreville WI in 1936, and while serving as president of North Waterloo District WI's from 1944-49 assisted with the organization of several branches. Following her death, the district WI's set up the Helena Feasby Memorial Award for students pursuing higher education.
Feasby actively promoted improvements in the community. She served on the committee for Waterloo County's 100th anniversary celebrations in 1954, fostered interest in history among students and adults, and was the WI Tweedsmuir history convenor. Active in Trinity United Church, she taught the women's Friendly Bible Class for many years, and served on the board of the Children's Aid Society and the Humane Society.
