Notes |
- REIST, Agnes (nee Baird) Passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 24th at the Village of Winston Park, Kitchener. Beloved wife of the late George Reist who predeceased her in 2005. Predeceased by her parents Robert and Rose (Bond) Baird, sisters Margaret Smith (Ken), Jean Cox (John), Faith Neudoerffer (Fred), Isabel Hallman (Russell) and Ruth in infancy, and by her brothers Tom (Hazel), and Robert (Jean) and by George's sisters, Elizabeth Junker (Harold), and Laura Reist. Agnes will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews in Ontario, Vermont, New York and Kentucky. After graduating from Stratford Normal School, Agnes taught in Waterloo County for ten years before returning to her love of Jersey cows, and operating a dairy farm with George on Westmount Road. As an active community supporter Agnes was a 50 year member of Helena Feasby Women's Institute and a life member of the Ayr Curling Club. She volunteered at Winston Park for several years prior to becoming a resident. Agnes became curator of local history through her writing of Tweedsmuir history, compiling Baird Family genealogy and recording the history of the Ayr Curling Club. In her later years Agnes proudly supported Grand River Hospital by knitting 2000 hats for babies and she created unique knitted dolls for charities. The family thanks everyone at the Village of Winston Park who provided excellent care and support to Agnes and George for many years. Following a private interment at Chesterfield Cemetery, a Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 9th at 2:00 p.m. at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre , 1001 Ottawa St. S. Kitchener. Memorial donation may be directed to Schlegel UW Research Institute for Aging, www.the-ria.ca.
