Notes |
- Mr. George John Guenther was born at Kling, Germany, and died here March 20th, 1896, aged 59 years, 1 month, 27 days. He married twice; His first wife was Mary Sachs (a sister to John, Henry, and Conrad), who died on April I I th, 1881, aged 42 years, 8 months; and his second, Amelia Schramm, born at Preston, who died here on January 8th, 1909, aged 61 years, 9 months, one day.
Mr. Guenther served on the council and was assessor many years. Upon the death of Mr. George Guenther the furniture and undertaking business was carried on for a time by his son, David, who was a carpenter by trade, and then was sold to Stager & Company who later removed to other premises. The Guenther store was in the building which now houses the Galt Reporter Hespeler Office. David, born here in 1865, died in 1924.

___________
HESPELER.
Mr. Geo. Guenther, a resident of Hespeler for over forty years, died suddenly at his home on Friday morning, after a very short illness. On Sunday last he had been taken with an attack of influenza, and on Wednesday he appeared to be quite well, but on Thursday evening, between five and six o'clook, he was taken seriously ill with inflammation of the bowels, and died at 4 o'clock Friday morning. He came from Germany about 46 years ago, settled in Hespeler soon after and has lived here ever since. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, and in politics a Conservative. He was village assessor for a great many years. The large attendance at the funeral attested the universal respect in which Mr. Guenther was held. The members of the Hespeler Lodge, A.O.U.W., attended in a body, the impressive funeral service of the order being read at the grave. On Tuesday afternoon
