Notes |
- MCGINNIS, HUGH
The funeral of Mr. McGinnis, aged 68 years, whose death we briefly mentioned in last week's issue, took place on Friday morning, the 19th November 1886, from his residence on Bergey St. in Hespeler to the Catholic Church. Mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Kiely, after which his body was interred in the Catholic Cemetery in the presence of his sorrowful widow and family of eleven children and many grandchildren, as well as a large concourse of friends and acquaintances. He was a native of County Down, Ireland and settled in the 4th concession of Puslinch in the year 1831. He successfully cultivated a farm there for upwards of forty years, leaving it a few years ago, since which time he has lived in Hespeler, endearing himself to all by his unassuming and genial manner. Although showing the wear and tear of a busy, industrious life, he bid fair to see many years, but on Saturday he was suddenly taken ill with inflamation of the lungs, never rallying, death ensuing at an early hour on Wednesday morning. We believe that, of the twelve members of his family, eleven were present at his death. Among others from a distance we noticed at his funeral Mrs. McDonald of North Branch, Lapeer County, Michigan and Mrs. Clancy of Buffalo, NY, both daughters.
