    • SCHMALZ, Alice M. (nee Bauer) - Passed away, suddenly, at the family cottage, near Drayton, on Friday, June 11, 1999, in her 77th year. Born January 8, 1923, in Waterloo.

      Survived by her husband of 54 years, Cecil Schmalz of Cambridge; daughter of the late Sir Edgar Bauer and Bertha Hayes. Dear mother of Gary and his wife Jane of Cambridge, Janet and husband Bill Cliff of Langley, B.C., Greg and wife Norine of Wilcox, Sask., Paul and wife Karla of Mississauga, Therese and husband Greg Kvisle of Wilcox, Sask., Joanne and husband Peter Mumford of King City, Tony and wife Dorothy of Cambridge, Mark and wife Sandy of Yellowknife, NWT, Dale and wife Debbie of Cambridge and John and wife Jennifer of Dorchester; grandmother to 16 grandsons and 15 grand-daughters. Predeceased by children Michael, Joseph and Marian and brothers, Frank, Bob, Eugene, Jerome and Father David Bauer, sister of Mary Freiburger, Raymond and Patricia Bauer, Rita and Jim Huck, all of Kitchener-Waterloo, Therese and Tom Dillon of Larchmont, NY and Margaret and Joseph Laudenbach of Bayfield; sister-in-law to Sally and Harriet Bauer of Kitchener-Waterloo and aunt to 52 nieces and nephews.

      Alice was a 50 year member of St. Clement's CWL in Cambridge, member of Birthrite of Cambridge, Meals on Wheels, Senior Citizens of Allen Reuter Centre, Cambridge Association for the Mentally Handicapped and supported many community organizations through out her lifetime. Her memory will live on through all who were touched by her gift of giving.

      Donations in her memory to one of the above organizations or Canadian Food for Children (arranged through St. Clement's Parish) would be gratefully appreciated by the family.

      We will receive friends at Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Rd., Cambridge on Monday, June 14, from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, June 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with prayer at 8: 30 p.m. A Memorial mass in celebration of Alice's life will be hels at St. Clement's RC Church Duke Street Cambridge on Wednesday June 16, 1999 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception prepared by the CWL at St. Clement's Parish Hall.

      Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
