THIS COLUMN has lost one of its most faithful and loyal friends, as well as a frequent contributor, in the death of Peter Kidd. Was shocked to hear of his demise since it seems it was only a few days back that saw him on Main Street on a regular daily trip. Wednesday night he went over to the home of his brother, Andy, on Dundas Street to spend the evening, He complained of a shortage of breath and lay down on a couch and passed away suddenly. Born in Scotland, Peter had resided in Galt for 50 years, and was one our city's best boosters and often said, "there is no finer place in the world to live". He was a devout churchman, a regular attendant at First Church for many years and was a onetime Sunday school teacher. He was also a great reader and a First World War veteran and from his experiences, many a time he recited to us many fine lessons on humanity he had acquired on the field of battle.

Further he was one of city's most enthusiastic bicyclists and up until the late autumn could be seen daily trundling his 'bike' along with him in the downtown area. In the fine weather it was a daily practice, since his retirement, to go on long rides around the neighboring countryside, since he was a great admirer of the rural scene. He was also a keen photographer. The deceased was a firm believer in travelling, finding it an education, and in recent years made it a policy to have one good annual vacation, making bus tours to various parts of the U.S., of which he told us of the highlights and about the nice people he had met, many of whom became letter pals to maintain their acquaintanceship. His sudden passing was untimely since he had made plans, even steamship reservations, some months ago for his first trip back to his native Scotland since war days of 1914-18. He was looking forward to it with keen anticipation, having told us about his birthplace, landmarks and historic places he planned to visit and photograph for us to see on his return. Back in the depression days he served the city, with credit to himself for his honesty and thoroughness as the relief inspector.
