  Child, 7, Drowns At German Mills GERMAN MILLS. - Tumbling into the dam near the flood gates where she was playing while her parents were attending Kitchener market, seven-year-old Patricia Cook was drowned Wednesday. The accident occurred at German Mills, where her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cook operate a market garden. According to County Constable Morley Battler, more than one hour was required to recover the body of the child. Artificial respiration applied by Vernon Bearinger and Donald Martin, who recovered the body, and later by Chief County Coroner Dr. Ward Woolner, proved futile. "Martin and I were working at the mill when Patricia's brother and sister, Kenneth, 12, and Jean 7, ran in and screamed that their sister had fallen into the water and couldn't get out," Bearinger told The Chronicle. "We ran down to the dam, which is about half a mile away, but by that time there was no sign of her. It took more than an hour to recover the body, which was in seven feet of water," he related.
