      SCHOOL TRUSTEE OR TWELVE YEARS

      Had Just Received Fifty-Year Masonic Past Master's Jewel

      Dr. Carl Edward Klotz, prominent in dental and Masonic circles in St. Catharines for the past half- century passed away at his late residence, 180 James street last night.

      The late Dr. Klotz was born in Preston, Ont., in 1847, coming to this city 1882, where he has practised until six years ago, when failing health caused him to retire. He received his right to practise by a personal examination before the dental college was formed, and was later given the degree D.D.S. by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons. During his life he has taken a keen interest in all dental affairs having been treasurer and later president of the Ontario Dental Association. He was associate editor for a number of years of the Dominion Dental Journal and frequently contributed his translations of German dental magazines for the Journal.

      In Masonic Affairs

      The deceased has always been prominent in Masonic affairs, joining the Preston lodge 55 years ago. He has been a past master for the last fifty years, being past master of the Preston Lodge and of Temple Lodge 296, St. Catharines. On Tuesday last, he was presented by the Masonic Grand Lodge with a fifty year Past Master's jewel. For 35 years he has been installing Master of Temple Lodge.

      Besides his Masonic and dental activities the late Dr. Klotz was interested in educational affairs and was a member of the school board of this city for twelve years. He was the organizer of the children's saving banks in the public schools, and was a regular attendant at Knox church.

      Only Two Weeks

      Although he had been in failing health for some time, the deceased had been confined to bed for only two weeks. He was married in 1875 to Marie Eberbach, whom he leaves to mourn his passing. To mourn, he also leaves one sister, Miss Augusta Klotz of Kitchener; one brother, Emil Klotz of Toronto: one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Waldemar Klotz also of Toronto; and two grandchildren, Beatrice and Carl Klotz.

      The remains are resting at the funeral home of Noble S. Crowe, King street, until Thursday afternoon. The funeral service will be held on Thursday evening at his late residence, 180 James street, at 8 o'clock. thence by motor car on Friday morning, to the Scarborough Park Cemetery, Toronto, where interment will take place at 1 o'clock
