- While the school building, a log edifice, was in course of construction, Hubert Gilles taught school in his mother's house. Mr. Blasius Beisang was the second teacher, and then Mr. Gilles returned from a Woolwich school to teach two years more in Preston.

Among the first Catholic settlers, early in the thirties, were Blasius Beysang and his brother William, a little west of Heidelberg. In the house of the former Mass was celebrated for some time.

A post office was estabished in 1871, at Marystown. Blasius Beisang was appointed Postmaster, and still holds the office. The village supports two hotels; one in a frame building run by Joseph Strunk; the other is brick and run by Blasius Beisang, who also owns a general merchandise store, saloon, and merchant tailoring store. His wife has a milinery establishment. The village [Marystown] has a blacksmith shop, shoe shop and feed mill.

At St Peter asylum on Thursday April 7th Blasius Beisang of Shakopee; and was buried from St Marks' church Saturday in the Catholic cemetery. Deceased was about 62 years of age, and for a long time was in the tailoring business here, but failing, his mind became impaired and he was sent to the asylum. He was a good man, and much sorrow is felt for his death and previous troubles.
