  Friends, family gather in colourful clothing to remember Kayla Duff By Robert Williams Record Reporter CAMBRIDGE - No one was wearing black at a celebration of life for Kayla Duff at Riverside Park in Cambridge on Wednesday. The event called for friends and family to "wear your craziest and most colourful outfit," and the roughly 50 people in attendance followed the request. As per the family's wishes, media left the park slightly before 4:30 p.m. to let the gathering grieve in peace. Reporters on scene were directed not to approach attendees. Last Friday morning, Waterloo Regional Police responded to reports of a medical emergency at a townhouse near Queen Street West and Winston Boulevard in Hespeler. Duff, 22, was later identified by loved ones as the victim of a homicide. Police said an autopsy determined she died of multiple stab wounds. A 41-year-old woman has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to the death. Melissa Duff-Shore made a brief court appearance in Kitchener on Monday by audio from Vanier jail in Milton. Kayla was born 22 years ago on September 22, 1997 and was a ray of light to all those who had the chance of knowing her. With a heart of gold and compassion beyond her years, Kayla was the first to jump in to help a friend in need. She was among many things, the most genuine, caring and loving person to have ever blessed this earth, a true hero to all those around her. Kayla will be remembered by those who knew her, she leaves behind her sister Samantha, grandmother Joni, aunt Jennifer, eldest friend Breeanah, uncles Nick and Max, mother Melissa, father Dennis, grandparents Karen, Fernando, Doug, Marlene and uncle Wally. Kayla joins in heaven her great-grandmother Patricia, grandfather Stephen, friends Baylee and Ali. Kayla adored all things living, she rejoiced in nature, loved all animals and held those she knew close to her heart.
