Notes |
- McKellar, Donald
In the death of Mr. McKellar, which took place at Ashburnham on Tuesday, this town loses one of its oldest and most respected citizens. The gentleman was a native, born in 1810, of Lochgilpead, Argyleshire, Scotland and came to Canada thirty-five years ago. For thirteen years, he was a member of the firm of McKellar and Cameron, but on the destruction of the premises by fire, the business was not resumed. He was a brother of the late Dr. McKellar of Strathroy and had one brother a Presbyterian minister in Scotland and another a surgeon in the Royal Navy. The only other surviving members of his family are a brother, Angus, living in Puslinch Township, near Galt and a sister, who resided in Glasgow. Mr. McKellar was never married and had his home with Mrs. Donald McFarlane during her life and since her death with Mrs. John Erskine. He was an upright, honourable gentleman and leaves behind many friends.
