- William F. Tye Dies in France
Relatives of William Francis Tye, C.E., formerly chief engineer of the Canadian Pacific Railway, received the announcement of his death in Paris on January 9th, following an illness of two days. Mr. Tye was on his way from Oannes to take up residence in Montreal.
His remains will be brought to Canada for burial.
Mr. Tye was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tye and was born on the farm now owned by Mr. Addison Kline. He received his early education at S.S. No. 4, Wilmot, and was a pupil of William Linton. He was a graduate of the University of Ottawa and School of Practical Science, Toronto.
Commenting on his work the Ottawa Citizen said "He was an engineer of much experience and high standing." He was a member of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers. Entered the Canadian Pacific Railway service in 1882, filling various positions, became transit man on location and assistant engineer on Construction on the St. Paul, Minneapolis and Manitoba Railway 1886-7, Engineer of track and bridges Tampico branch, Mexican Central 1888-9, Locating Engineer Great Falls Railway, Montana, 1890, Engineer in charge of location and Divisional Engineer Pacific extension with the Great Northern Railway 1891-2, Engineer in charge of change of gauge Alberta Railway and Coal co. 1893-4. Since 1910 he has been President of the Sterling Coal Co. Ltd. He was a member of the York club, Toronto, St. James Club, Montreal and the Manitoba club of Winnipeg.
Mrs. Henry Walker, Huron road, Mrs. (Rev.) C.H.P. Owen, of Brantford and Mrs. W.L.P. Graham, of Galt, are cousins of the deceased.
