PRESTON -- John Henry Allard. 73, well-known Preston resident for the past 40 years, died at his home, Fifth Ave., Preston, last night. Ailing for five years Mr. Allard had been seriously ill for three weeks. Born in Macon, Ga., he served with the United States Navy for five years. He resided in Kitchener for a time before making his home in Preston in 1911. On Dee. 1. 1912, he entered the service of the Grand River and Lake Erie and Northern Railway as a trucker and rose from that Position to his appointment Sept. 1, 1928 as superintendent with headquarters at Preston. He retired March 31, 1944, under the pension regulations. For many years he was an active member of the Preston-Hespeler Rotary Club, and was chairman of the crippled children's committee, the club's chief service work, for some years. At the time of his illness he retired from active membership but was named an honorary member of the club in appreciation of his past services. He was also a member of the Preston Masonic Lodge No. 297, AF and AM. His first wife. Frances Ellen Barber, predeceased him in 1932. Surviving are his wife, Florence Victoria Smith; two sons, Jack of Waterloo and James of Galt, and a daughter, Mary Jane at home. Six grandchildren also survive. The body is resting at the Stager-Pass Funeral Home where the funeral will be held Saturday at 4 o'clock. Rev. R. T. Appleyard will officiate. Interment will be in Preston cemetery.
