Notes |
- Mrs. Magdalena Schultz - The funeral of the late Mrs. Schultz who passed away here last Thursday, was held from the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. Chr. Roth, on Sunday afternoon and was attended by a large circle of relatives and friends. After a short service at the house the cortege proceeded to Hostetler's Church where the funeral service was held by Rev. F. Weicker and Rev. Harvey Gampp. Interment took place in Hostetler's Cemetery.
In the death of Mrs. Schultz another link of the pioneer days of this district has been severed. The deceased whose maiden name was Madgalena Otto, was born in North Easthope on the farm now occupied by Russel Fierling, on September 21, 1844. She thus reached the age of 86 years, 3 months, 25 days. She spent her whole life in this neighborhood and through her kind nature and womanly qualities endeared herself to a large circle of friends.
She was married in 1864 to Christian Schultz and they resided on the farm south of the town. Her husband predeceased her in 1887 and since then she continued to make her home with her only daughter, Mrs. Chr. Roth. Besides her daughter she leaves to mourn her death three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also two sisters, Mrs. Otto, of Danvers, Ill., and Mrs. Otto, of Ashland, Ill., besides a host of other relatives and friends.
The late Mrs. Schultz was seriously ill with pneumonia two years ago but had fully recovered and only a short time before her death, showed signs of failing health.
