  NEW HAMBURG Word has been received here of the death of John Stahl, Chicago, a former New Hamburg resident. Mr. Stahl, who was born in New Hamburg, was 85 years of age. As a young man he went to Chicago and was employed with the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railway, retiring 15 years ago. He was married to Julia Franke also of New Hamburg. Surviving besides his widow are one son, Roy, and one daughter, Mrs. James Brown, both of Chicago, and three grandchildren. Waterloo Chronicle 4 Jun 1948 pg 3 ________________ Former New Hamburg Resident Dies In Chicago Word has been received here of the death in Chicago of Mr. John Stahl, a former resident of New Hamburg, at the age of 85 years. The deceased spent his youth in New Hamburg. He was married to Julia Franke, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Franke of this town. They left here and resided in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Stahl returned to New Hamburg about 45 years ago and for about a year conducted the Queen's Hotel here. They returned to Chicago where Mr. Stahl was employed in the express department of the Chicago', Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railway, retiring 15 years ago. Surviving are his wife, one son, Harry L. Stahl and one daughter, Mrs. James Brown, both of Chicago, and three grandchildren. The funeral was held in Chicago on Sunday.
