  Schmitt, Alfred - On Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at the Cambridge Country Manor, age 96 years, formerly of RR 3, Waterloo. Mr. Schmitt was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in St. Jacobs and a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Erbsville; a cement contractor until his retirement, then employed with MacDonald Electric for a number of years. Dear husband of the late Ella Schmitt. Loving father of Grace Downs, Floyd Schmitt and his wife Ellen, all of St. Jacobs and Yvonne Such and her husband Gerry of Waterloo. Will be sadly missed by grandchildren, Mike and Lynn Edwards, Dennis Schmitt, Cathy and Robert Bell, Sandra and David Telfer, Kelly and Brian Schott, Jerri Lynn and Ron Dawn, David and Juli Lyn Such, Trish and Dean Dietrich, Heidi Gumpert. Wayne Schmitt, Gail Kreller and Nancy Schmitt. Also survived by 17 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Rolf Gumpert and daughter-in-law, Marie Schmitt. Predeceased by his parents, Barbara and John Schmitt; brothers, Louie, Jack, Ted, Carl, Clayton; sisters, Alma, Helga and Kate; son, Ross Schmitt; daughter, Barbara Gumpert; sons-in-law, William Downs and Russel Edwards. Mr. Schmitt's family will receive friends at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, today (Monday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. At noon on Tuesday, transfer will be made to St. James Lutheran Church, St. Jacobs for visitation at 1 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m., with Rev.
