Notes |
- Death of John P. Willie - Although not unexpected, the news of the death of John P. Wyllie came as a great shock to the community on Thursday afternoon last. Deceased was a son of the late John Wyllie, and was in his 45th year. He had been ill for about six months with an internal trouble and suffered much pain, which was borne with great patience. He was born in Ayr and lived here nearly all his life, and was one of the most popular members of the community, being highly respected and beloved by everyone. In his younger days he was quite an athlete and was a well-known hockey player and curler, being a member of the Ayr Hockey team that competed in the finals with Kingston, for the champion ship of Ontario some years ago. He was a former chief of the Ayr Fire Brigade and a member of Dolman Lodge I.O.O.F. and of Ayr Lodge A.F. and A.M. Besides his mother he is survived by one brother, Robt. P. Wyllie of Oakland, California. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock, to Ayr cemetery and was one of the most largely attended that has ever taken place in this village.
