OLD ELMIRA BOY ANSWERS LAST CALL
Mr. Fred Vogt Passes Away at Mishawaka
FINE BUSINESS MAN
Spent Boyhood Here Prior To Embarking on Business Career
After a good and vallant fight, one of Elmira's Old Boys has passed down through the valley of the purple shadows in the person of Mr. Fred A. Vogt of Mishawaka, Indiana. Death occurred on Sunday evening last following an acute attack of the illness from which Mr. Vogt had suffered for a considerable time. For over a year, the late Mr. Vogt had been troubled with ulcer of the stomach, and this developed into peritonitis. Last Spring, he was in a quite critical condition and Mrs. George Ruppel and Mr. Oscar Vogt both visited his bed-side. Recently, however, he had been much improved and a complete recovery was anticipated. Three weeks ago he, with Mrs. Vogt, enjoyed an automobile trip to St. Louis. Missouri, where they attended the convention of the National Jewellers' Association, and they were contemplating a trip very soon to Elmira to visit the old come and see his mother, Mrs. Marianna Vogt. A week ago he was fulfilling social engagement and was engaged as usual at his fine store in Mishawaka Friday evening however, severe pain developed, and he was taken to the hospital where he passed away. He was in his sixty-seventh year.
Goes to United States
A son of the late George, Vogt and Mrs. Vogt, he was born at Washington, Ontario, but moved with his parents to Elmira when about five years old, and it was here that he spent his boyhood and went to school forming associations of a deep and lasting nature. When a lad of seventeen he went to Hamilton and later to the United States settling in Cincinnati and later in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Then in 1899 he opened a small jewellery store in Mishawaka which grew steadily year by year till it became one of the finest businesses in that part of the country. Never, well as by his mother, Mrs. Marion Vogt of Elmira. His brothers and sisters are as follows: Dr. A. S. Vogt, Toronto, Mrs. S. H. Eby St. Thomas, Mrs. C. K. Jansen, Galt, Mrs. Philip Christman, Elmira, Mrs. Geo. Ruppel, Elmira and Mr. Oscar Vogt Elmira.
The Funeral
The funeral is being held this afternoon from the home of Mr. Oscar Vogt, the body having been brought here yesterday from Mishawaka, accompanied by Mr. George Ruppel and Mr. Oscar Vogt. An appropriate service was first held in Mishawaka which was very largely attended by the business and fraternal associates of the late Mr. Vogt, and a number of beautiful selections were rendered by the male quartette of the First Presbyterian Church, the pastor of which officiated. The funeral in Elmira is in charge of Rev. Mr. Bartlett of Gale Presbyterian church, assisted by Rev. Mr. Strempfer of St. James Lutheran Church. The pall- bearers are Messrs. A. Werner, J. Á. Schroder, W. V. Uttley, Wm. Behrens and George Klinck. Among those from out of town at- tending the funeral are his widow, Mrs. S. H. Eby of St. Thomas, Mrs. Oscar Eby, St. Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. CK Jansen, Mr Vogt Jansen, Miss Wilhelmina, and Mr. Albert Jansen of Galt, Mr. and Mrs. Will Mickus, Mrs. (Dr.) Robert Elliott of Preston, Mr. Otto Christman of Orillia, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Harper, Waterloo and Mrs. Johi Brundle of Hamilton
