      _________________

Early on Friday morning Mr. Wm. Stafford passed away at his residence on Green Street as a result of the paralysis with which he was seized a few days previously. The funeral took place to Port Elgin cemetery on Saturday afternoon, the Rev. L. McKinnon conducting appropriate services. The deceased leaves a widow and a family of six children, Mrs. Thos. Rankin, Mrs. H. C. Baker, Mrs. Robert Marr, Mrs. Fair, Timothy at Paisley, and Hiram in Manitoba. Mr. Stafford came to Bruce in the very early days of the settlement, starting a brick yard on the 6th con. of Saugeen where Mr. P. Cummings lives. He afterwards owned farms in Saugeen and Bruce. He was a man of marked industry, quiet in his habits and disposition always attended to his own business, not taking anything much to do with public matters. He was a Conservative in politics. The removal of Mr. Stafford makes another break in the ranks of the good men and true who redeemed the county of Bruce from the forest.
