- Mr. James Hetherington Passes Away At Noon Wednesday
Word was received by friends in Galt, Wednesday, of the death of Mr. James Hetherington, which took place about noon, that day, at his home, Hyde Park, Chicago. Deceased had been ill for several months and his life had been despaired of for some time. Mr. Hetherington is well-known in Galt, where he was a highly respected resident for many years. He was formerly proprietor of the Galt House and for some years conducted a saloon on the corner of Main and Ainslie streets, where Shupe & Briscoe, now are. He was a whole-souled, genial, good-hearted gentleman, one whom it was a pleasure to meet and whose visits were always looked forward to with enjoyment. His death will be generally and sincerely regretted here. Deceased removed to Chicago about ten years ago, where he has resided ever since. Deceased was, as near as we can learn, in the 65th year of his age and leaves a widow, three sons and one daughter. The sons are; Charles, James and John and the daughter; Aggie, Mrs. Leask Ross, all of whom reside In Chicago. Two sisters of Mr. Hetherington, are still alive, K. M. Peebles, of Strabane and Mrs. Elliott, of Cobourg. Mrs. A. W. Falconer, of this town, is a niece. The funeral took place from the G.T.R. train, Friday afternoon, to Mount View cemetery. Besides the old friend from Galt, there were friends present from St. Catharines, Hamilton, Dundas and other places, to pay the tribute of respect to one whom all esteemed. Rev. J. G. Scott, pastor of the Methodist church, conducted the service, at the grave. Mr. Charles Hetherington, the eldest son of the deceased, accompanied the remains from Chicago.
