    • Ex-County Warden, Stanley Knapp Dies

      GALT-J. Stanley Knapp of RR 4, Galt, died last night at South Waterloo Hospital, Galt. He was 75. Mr. Knapp was born at Montague Township, Lanark County, and had resided in the Galt area since 1914. He was the Waterloo County agricultural representative from 1914 to 1924.

      He then took up farming and was widely known in pure-bred livestock circles as an Ayrshire and Holstein cattle breeder. He was a pioneer in agricultural short course programs which led to the organization of the Junior Farmers group and the local school fairs. He was the first secretary of Ayrshire Breeders Association, an office he held for 29 years.

      He was reeve of North Dumfries Township in 1955 and was county warden in 1956. He was an active member of Wesley United Church and was a former Sunday school super-intendent and also a church elder. At the time of his death he was an honorary church elder.

      He was predeceased by his wife, the former Emily Elizabeth Taylor. on May 29 of this year. Surviving is one son, Wallace J. of RR 2, Galt; two daughters, Mrs. Murray (Dorothy) McRae of Denfield, Ont.. and Mrs. John (Audrey) Gillespie. of RR 5, Galt: one sister. Mrs. Cecil (Gertrude) Barbour of Wellesley and 12 grandchildren. The body is at the Little Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
