Notes |
- FRED LICHT.
This natural born genius has been a resident of Roseville about 33 years, having come to this country 40 years ago, from Mecklenburg Germany, where he was born in 1835. He holds forth in what is known as the Roseville carriage works, which, however, is not carried on as extensively as it was in earlier days. His principal vocation now is in making by hand many useful household articles from wood, and in the manufacture of articles where the turning lathe would seem indispensible, he carves out perfectly, entirely by hand. He has now on hand several patent churns of his own make, the model of which he obtained from an American newspaper advertisement. He can make a model up-to-date buggy or cutter box without the aid of machinery and to judge by the number of specimens of his handiwork lying about his workshop, one would think that he would be capable of making anything in the wood line from a tooth pick to a threshing machine, He is now in the 63rd year of his age, but time seems to have dealt leniently with him, for he is yet hale and hearty, and it is likely he will live many years ere he is called upon to end his earthly labors.
Waterloo County Chronicle, 31 Mar 1898, p. 8
