- Mrs. John Gilles
PRESTON, April 10. Lifelong and well-known Preston resident, Magdalena Bauer, wife of John William Gilles, died in St. Marys Hospital, Kitchener, Friday morning, at the age of 74 years. Mrs. Gilles had been confined to hospital two weeks, returned home and suffered a heart attack. Born in Preston, Mrs. Gilles had resided here all her life. She was a member of St. Clement's R.C. Church and of the Altar Society. For the past four years she had made her home at 722 Sherring Street, prior to which she lived on the Gilles farm, at the foot of Wellington St., for many years. Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Sister Frances Xavier, of Waterloo and Mrs. Thomas Cowman, Blair; three sons, Dr. John W. Gilles, Jr., of Edmonton; Robert, at home and Joseph at Toronto University; one grandchild; six sisters, Mrs. Edward Dopp and Mrs. Edward Burgess, both of Preston; Mrs. Alex. Weber, Waterloo; Mrs. John Hoebsmann, Mrs. J. Connors and Miss Agnes Bauer, all of Toronto; a brother, Peter Bauer at Cruickston Park, Blair. Two children, Edward in 1907 in Preston and Agnes in 1943 at Preston, predeceased her. The funeral was held today, with solemn requiem high mass at St. Clement's R.C. Church, at 9 a.m. Interment was made in the R.C. Cemetery.
