  SHANTZ, Ion - Passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, Kitchener. Ion resided in Kitchener and was formerly of Millbank. He was born 81 years ago in Wilmot Township and was the son of the late Manasseh and Louida (Cressman) Shantz. Beloved husband of Helen (Lichti) Shantz whom he married October 1, 1955. Sadly missed by his daughters, Joan and Dennis Martin of Baden, Judy and Greg Witmer of Calgary, Donna Lowery of Kitchener, Kathy and Mark Hagar of Carlisle, Christine Evershed and Doug Arthur of Waterdown. Loving grandfather of Nicole (John), Lisa (Derek), Jackie (Steve), Michael (Danielle), Matthew, Megan, Brock, Jenna, Hilary, Luke and Jacob and great-grandfather of Brayden, Ashley and Kaleb. Also missed by his sisters and brothers, Etta Shantz of Cambridge, Robert and Lena Shantz, Arley and Mabel Shantz all of New Hamburg, Ida and Lloyd Schwartzentruber of Kitchener and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Irene Shantz and Marie Shantz both of Kitchener, Helen Shantz of New Hamburg, Melvin Lichti of Wellesley, Luella Wagler of Millbank, Alvin Roes of British Columbia and Emma Lichti of Linwood. Ion was predeceased by his brothers and sister, Howard and Hilda Shantz, Wilfred and Selda Shantz, Armand Shantz, Nyal Shantz; twin brother, Mahlon Shantz; Esther and Aaron Enns and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Lichti, David Wagler, Albert Lichti, Marie Roes and Peter and Betty Lichti. Ion was a member of Shantz Mennonite Church, RR. 2, Baden. Family and friends may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home , 291 Huron St., New Hamburg on Friday, September 5, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.. The Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 3 p.m. at Shantz Mennonite Church with Pastor Ellie Huebner officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre or Shantz Mennonite Church.
