Notes |
- Death Of Walter Clark
Another Well-Known Ayr Resident Passes
Was in His 80th Year - Walter Clark, another of Ayr's well-known and esteemed residents, passed away in Galt Hospital on Sunday morning after an illness of some weeks. Mr. Clark was born on the 2nd day of April, 1864, and was thus in his 80th year. He was a son of Walter Clark and Mary Ritchie, pioneer Scottish settlers. His father came to Canada in 1833 -110 years ago - and settled on the Clark homestead, two and a half miles northeast of Ayr, where Walter was born. Mr. Clark was the last surviving member of the family. Leaving the farm some 35 years ago, Walter came to Ayr and went into the implement business, his store being located in the old Willison building, corner of Stanley and Swan streets. It will be remembered that the old King Edward Club for men was located on Swan street at the rear of this building, Mr. Clark being the manager. Mr. Clark later went into business with James A. Dalzell, and the business was moved across the street to the premises now occupied by James D. Patterson. Walter retired from business some 10 years ago and made his residence on Willison street. He was well known and highly regarded by a wide acquaintanceship. He is survived by one niece, Mary Tunney, of Brantford. The funeral took place from Ball's Funeral Parlor on Tuesday afternoon, interment being made in Ayr Cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. W. J. McKeown of Galt; minister of the Ayr Presbyterian Congregation, and the pallbearers were: James Bell, David Gemmell, James Little, Clarence Campbell, James Matheson and Robert Matheson.
