- PASSED AWAY LAST SUNDAY
MR. JOHN SCHEDEWITZ HAD RESIDED AT WATERLOO, HEIDELBERG AND ST. JACOBS
The death of another old resident took place on Sunday last, May 7th, in the person of John Schedewitz, who has been living in this section for upwards of forty three years.
The late Mr. Schedewitz was born on October 13th, 1843 in Germany, and thus had reached the age of 78 years, 6 months and 24 days, when he was called to his reward.
Coming to Canada at the age of ten years, with his parents, the family settled near Waterloo. From there they moved to Heidelberg and later to near St. Jacobs. On October 22, 1867, he to Barbara Lackenbauer and removed to the farm now owned by Elias W. Weber, at Yatton. Forty three years ago, they took possession of the old homestead, three miles west of Elmira, where he lived until his death.
Mr. Schedewitz had been ailing for sometime and twelve weeks ago his condition became serious, resulting in his death on Sunday.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, two daughters, Mrs. O. Christman, Clara, and Mrs. Geo. Geisel, Elizabeth, (a third daughter Margaret, Mrs. Albert Stroh having died six years ago). Also surviving are his sons, Albert and William of Elmira, Simon at Yatton and John and Henry on the old homestead. Two sons died in infancy.
The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon at 1.30 p.m. from his home near Yatton to St Pauls' Lutheran Church, Elmira, Rev. Gallmeier officiating, with burial at the Union Cemetery.
The sympathy of the community is extended to the sorrowing family in their loss.
