A THE DEATH OF A COLLEAGUE

Death has summoned a valued member of the Record's staff, in the person of Solon G. Lutz. For fifteen years he had filled the positions of reporter and city editor.

It was in 1896 that he first joined our staff. Then a boy in his teens, who had been a brilliant public school pupil and the first one in his school section to pass the High School entrance examination.

He was not only an intelligent young man, but possessed in a high degree, the faculty of making friends. Probably his genial disposition and reliability enabled him to do this more easily than the majority do.

He was known as a first-class newspaper man. One able to get in-formation and place it before his readers in an interesting manner. It would not be beside the mark to say that he never wrote an article containing a designedly unkind sentence.

During his many years of residence in Berlin he learned to love it as his home and its people as friends.

Nothing in his daily rounds pleased him better than to acquire an item which told of growth and prosperity for the city.

Those who were associated with him on the Record mourn the death of a kind-hearted, loyal comrade, who faced the most perplexing things of life with a smile.

Now that he has filled his last assignment and his spirit has returned to its Maker, thousands of kindly thoughts will follow him on the Great Journey.

      God bless Solon!
