- Mrs. DeVaux, Fresnan Since 1917, Dies At 87
Mrs. Rose E. DeVaux, 87, whose family owned a public swimming pool and picnic ground in Fresno for more than 30 years, died last night in a local convalescent home. She had been ill about three months.
Mrs. DeVaux was the widow of Delbert W. DeVaux, coowner of a company which manufactured the old Star automobiles in Oakland and set up its first distributorship in Fresno, DeVaux established the recreation center in 1932 at the family home at 4722 North Nario Avenue. It was sold spring to the new Fig Garden Swim and Racaquet Club
Gift to Scouts
The family donated a spot called Corlieu Springs, near Fish Camp in Madera County to the Sequoia Boy Scout Council in 1952. The place is known as DeVaux's Camp and is used by the Scouts for outings the year around.
Mrs. DeVaux had been a Fresno resident since 1917. She was born in Kasouth, Ontario, Canada.
Her survivors are a daughter, Mrs. W. L. Munday, Jr., of Fresno; a sister, Mrs. T. W. McGlone of Rock Island, Ill., and one grandson.
The family requests that remembrances be in the form of contributions to the charity of the donor's choice.
A requiem mass will be celebrated tomorrow at 9 AM in St. John's Cathedral. Entombment rites will be private. The Stephens and Bean Funeral Service has charge of the arrangements.
