  • Notes
    • Biography = Rev. Archibald C. Wishart, B.A., was born near Fergus, Ontario, where he received his preliminary education. He took a Second Class teacher's certificate at Guelph and taught for four years. His academic training was received at the University of Toronto and Knox Theological Seminary, receiving his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the former and his Testamur from the latter, in 1900. Having completed his theological training, he ministered to the following congregations, namely: Beaverton, Ontario 1900-1906; Brussels, Ontario (Knox) 1907-1912; Calgary, Alberta (St. Paul's) 1913-1922; California 1925-1926; McLeod, Alberta (St. Andrews) 1927-1928; Chilliwack, B.C. (Cooke's) 1929-1930; New Westminster, B.C. (St. Andrew's) 1931-1935; Appendix to the Roll 1936-1952. Mr. Wishart also acted an convenor of Presbytery's Mission Committee for seven years, and Synod's Mission convenor for three years, the duties of which he discharged with good judgement and discretion. After retirement he supplied for a period the pulpits of Knox Church, Calgary and Grace Church. Mr. Wishart was a devout Christian, believing in good works and the immortality of the soul, and proclaiming the glad tidings with zeal and fervour. When ministering to the Beaverton congregation, he married Miss Hester Millican, the daughter of the minister of his boyhood church. The following year, she crossed the Great Divide. Some years later, Mrs. Irene Breckenridge became his wife. (Married at Banff, Alberta, 1915). She passed beyond the Sunset in 1948. Socrates, the well known Grecian Philosopher, when condemned to die by his judges made use of these words: "No evil can befall a good man, either dead or alive. I see that to die and depart is far better for me." Mr. Wishart's health was impaired for some time, so that he was unable any longer to take an active interest in Church or Presbytery work. Entering the General Hospital of Friday evening, November 14th, 1953, on Saturday morning he closed his eyes in the peace of sleep and crossed the Silent River into the presence of the Great Architect of the Universe. The remains were taken to Fergus, Ontario for internment. The prayer of the members of this court is, that God may keep His loved ones under the shadow of His wing, until that day when the family circle is again complete, "And they shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more, neither shall the sun light upon them, nor any heart, for the Lamb which is in the midst of the Throne shall feed them, and lead them unto fountains of living water, and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and they shall see His face and His name shall be in their foreheads." Arrive at last the blessed goal, And He that died in Holy Land, Would reach us out the shining hand, And take us as a single soul.
