  It is our sad duty this week to chronicle the death of Mr. Henry Ernst, of the "Hotel National", Plattsville, who has been ailing and gradually sinking for some time past, his body having wasted away to almost a mere skeleton. He died last Friday morning at the age of 49, surrounded by the members of his family and some of the immediate relatives. The deceased, who was a son of the late John Ernst, sen., and son-in-law of the late Frederick Merner, and half-brother to our postmaster, Mr. Chr. Ernst, was a highly esteemed citizen of Plattsville and well known for his sterling qualities as a hotel keeper, having kept his hotel in the true sense of the term. He was an ardent and useful member of the I.O.O.F. and A.F. & A.M. orders, in fact one of the organizers of the former, and both lodges had turned out in great numbers to give their departed brother the last "honors". Rev. Mr. Johnson, of Chesterfield, the conducting minister, preached a very able and appropriate sermon in the hall at Plattsville, previous to the proceeding of the funeral to New Hamburg, where the remains of our late friend were laid to rest in the Evangelical cemetery. The large concourse of people both in Plattsville and New Hamburg was a very eloquent factor as to the esteem in which he was held, the number of people at the cemetery being so large as to make it impossible for most of them only to get near the grave. The deceased leaves to mourn his death a sorrowing wife and two children and a host of relatives, to whom we extend our sincere sympathies, but especially to his family in their so sad bereavement of a kind and devoted husband and a loving father.
