- MURRAY, CATHERINE (Nee Johnston)
At 1 the morning of April 3rd 1909, at her home in Arkell, in her 68th year. On Sunday, while preparing for church, she was stricken with a paralytic stroke, from the effects of which she gradually succumbed. She was born in August 1841 on the farm on which she died and where she had lived the greatest part of her life. After marrying John Murray, who survives, they lived for six years in North Dumfries, after which they moved back to the old homestead, when they purchased it from her father. Her industry assisted her husband to increase his farm from one hundred to three hundred acres. Survived by children, Margaret, a nurse in Winnipeg; Mrs. Alexander Stewart of Clyde; Robert, at home; Mrs. R. J. McFarlane of Puslinch; Mrs. John A. McPherson of Schaw Station; Mrs. John Rae of Arkell; James and George, at home; and Finlayson in Ladner, BC. She was a member of Chalmers Church and was a most earnest and devout Christian woman. Funeral on Tuesday at 2: 30. Pallbearers were her three sons, Robert, James and George; three sons-in-law, Robert McFarlane, John Rae and Alex Stewart. All the members of her family, with the exception of her youngest son, Finlay who is in BC, were present. The funeral cortege included friends from Hamilton, Dumfries, Guelph and Toronto. Interment Farnham Cemetery.
-Information from the transcription of Farnham Cemetery: Children, Jane (1869-1871) and John (1870- 1871) are buried with them.
