    • Visits his Native - City After 22 Years
Mr. Alexander Hett of Iowa City. Iowa, here to attend the funeral of his mother. Mrs. Henry Hett.

Mr. Alexander Hett, who is in Berlin on the sad errand of attending the funeral of his mother, has not been in his native city for 22 years.

He states that he notices quite a change in that time. "Why it looks like different town altogether. said he this morning, when the scribe
      called upon him.

"I left the old home about twenty-two and a half years ago, going to Wyoming, Colorada. Nebraska. Utah, and quite a number of the western states before I settled down in lowa City. I took the advice of Horace Greeley and want west to grow up with the country.

"It looks as if it quite agreed with you," said the reporter.

"Yes, it has and lowa is considered one of the best agricultural states in the west, and corn is the chief product. I live right in what is known as the great "Corn Belt" and everything is prosperous. The farmers have had splendid crops, and everybody is happy.

Mr. Hett travels for an insurance company whose headquarters are at Detroit. Mich., and in the course of his business, reaches all parts of the states, and has a chance for observation that is not possible for every one. and he says that there are very few farmers that are not considered well off.

"How is politics, since the election is over? was the next question

"The election which was hold on Tuesday last, and at which I voted just before I started for up here was one sided, the Republicans being successful in electing Mr. G. W. Clark as Governor, and Mr. Albert B. Cummins to the Senate. This Mr. Clark is no relative of "Champ Clark" of Missouri. We succeeded in electing 10 out of the 11 representatives in the House at Washington. This is the same number as two years ago, but this year they were cleeted by increased majorities.
