Notes |
- Determined Suicide Near Doon - the Berlin News of Monday last had the following: - On Saturday night at about eleven o'clock Charles Kreasan, lime-burner, near Doon, a man well-known in Berlin, committed suicide by taking a dose of strychnine which had been kept some time in the house as rat poison. He had become very much dissipated for some time and being of a very violent temper caused anything but a happy life in his family, all of whom are worthy and highly respected people. After taking the 'medicine" he called his wife down stairs and told her what he had done, and if she had anything to say to him to say it at once. He seemed to be sensible for a couple of hours, though not fully so, as he was often disconnected and wandering in his remarks. After that he became insensible and was in convulsions till about on o'clock on Monday morning, when he died. Dr. Mulloy, of Preston, was called in as soon as possible, and administered the usual antidotes, but without avail. Deceased leaves a wife, five sons and five daughters, all of whom are well respected by those who know them and have the heartfelt sympathy of the community for the sad and melancholy event which afflicts them."

THE MORRISON BRICKYARD.
James Morrison was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and came to Canada with his parents when four years old. He grew up in Doon and one of his places of employment was the John Tilt brickyard. He and Homer Watson looked after the "Tinker-horse" that turned the machinery to mix the clay. One year he rented the brickyard from Mr. Tilt.
Then he bought the old Bear, Moore & Company brickyard, from Charles Kreason, who later ended his life with strychine. There is no record who owned it between Bear, Moore & Company and Mr. Kreason. Mr. Morrison owned the house on Miterra Drive behind the "Block" of 6 dwellings; later owned by John Bullock and then by Charles Hatt.
