      JURY TRIAL

      KITCHENER (WCP) Two citizens of Kitchener and Bridgeport. Mr. Nelson Boan of 135 Chapel street, Kitchener, and Mr. Ewart Smith. 600 Lancaster street west. Bridgeport, were committed for trial last Thurs day by judge and jury on a joint charge of conspiracy to operate a common gambling house.

      The two men had been charged following a raid conducted by Kitchener police members of the O.P.P., and the chief constable of Bridgeport at the Bridgeport Casino Feb. 23, A total of 87 persons were charged as a result of the raid. Two Kitchener P. U. C. buses were required to transport those charged.

      Ardis Eaton, 19, of 70 Waterloo Street; had a charge of performing an indecent act withdrawn. Crown Attorney Daufman told magistrate Barron the charge read she had performed the act in a public place and the to the police raid. act was actually performed in a private place.

      "I wrote the attorney-general for permission to charge her with performing the act in a private place but I have not received his permision. She has been in jail since the offence," he stated.

      Miss Eaton paid a total fine of $29 for being a found-in.

      Constable Meryl Prange, who acted as an undercover agent for police, said he saw the two accused taking an active part in a stag party being held at the Casino.

      "Boan was taking entrance tickets and was also selling beer and liquor tickets, while Mr. Smith was around the hall all evening." the officer said.

      He said that two dice games were operated during the evening and that a woman had performed a "strip" act just prior to the police raid.
