  Thomas and Lizzie (Anna Elizabeth) ended up moving to Toronto, so Edith Augusta Downing was born in York. She died in Barrie in 1984 of old age. She married Dr. Leon Hipwell of Toronto (a dentist). They had one child, my father, Thomas Leon Hipwell, Sept 27 1927, in Toronto. He died in Barrie in 1988 of liver cancer. None of those are Waterloo. Thomas Downing was born in Pickering, but ended up in Waterloo because he moved to live with his sister Eliza and work with her husband, Wm McCullough, eventually building pianos. Their sister Libby is also living with them on the 1891 census. I assume that this is how he met Lizzie Stein. Thomas died 1 Dec 1939 in Toronto. Lizzie was a dressmaker and she died 29 Dec 1956. I have a newspaper clipping detailing her win of a pearl inlay calling card case for her win in the small rifle competition in a shooting match 25 July 1889. Email Nancy Hipwell 2012
