    • Mrs. W.W. Tunison Passes Away April 26, 1919

Funeral services were held from late home Tuesday Afternoon.

Mrs. W.W. (Mary Ann Diegel) Tunison suffered a second stroke of paralysis last Friday night from which she failed to rally and passed away at her home in Malvern, Saturday evening, April 25. Mrs. Tunison had been in poor health for some time having suffered a partial stroke last winter from which she never fully recovered although feeling pretty well the past few weeks. She was up and about and was down town the night she was taken with the second attack.

Funeral services were held from the late home Tuesday afternoon at 2: 30, conducted by Rev. M.A. Gable, pastor of the Methodist church. A special choir, Mesdames F.R. Chantry and P.M. Cadwell and Messrs. R.W. Criswell and Lynn Parker, with Miss Ida Salyers as accompanist, sang.

The pall bearers were Messrs. C.W. Black, F.E. Mulholland; Arva Burrus, N.D. Smith, G.E. Downing and Wm. Kneeland and the remains were laid to rest in the Malvern cemetery. Many beautiful flowers testified to the loving remembrance of relatives and friends. Mrs. Tunison was a good woman, of unusually strong character, much beloved by those who knew her best. Her heart was wrapped up in her family, who were ever her first thought and consideration and yet she found time for helpfulness to her friends and those in need. She will be greatly missed.

The following obituary was read at the services:

Mary Ann Diegel, the fourth and youngest child of Andrew and Margaret Diegel was born May 1, 1864, in Berlin, Ontario, and died April 25, 1919, at her home in Malvern, Iowa.

She spent her early life in the city of her birth, and it was here she was confirmed in the German Lutheran Church.

When a young woman she removed with her parents to Osborne County, Kansas, and at this place in 1884 she was married to Willis Wesley Tunison and removed to Denver, Colorado, and later, in 1889, came to Malvern, Iowa, where she has since made her home.

To this union were born eight children - six daughters and two sons. Both sons have passed on before her, Willis Wesley in infancy and Julius Buster who on Oct 22, 1918, gave his life on the battlefields of France and for whom Memorial Services were held about six weeks ago. The husband, the daughters, Mrs. Reno (Dott) Moore, Mrs. W.D. (Mildred) McCausland, Mrs. Leon (Edna) Harvey, Katherine, Agnes and Burnice Tunison, survive and mourn her loss. Also her sister, Mrs. Kate Yaeck, Bridgeport, Ontario and two brothers, Julius Diegel of Los Angeles and Henry Diegel of Denver, Colo., eight grandchildren, other rleatives and numerous friends mourn her loss.

Mother, thou has left us lonely,
      Sorrow fills our hearts today,
But beyond this vale of sorrow,
Tears will all be wiped away.
      Mother thou art sweetly resting,
Cold may be this earthly tomb,
      But the angels sweetly whispered
"Come and live with us at home."
      Mother, thou art sweetly resting,
Here thy toils and pain are o'er,
Pain and sickness, death and sorrow,
      Never can distress thee more.

Those from a distance attending the services were Mr & Mrs Homer Jacobs, Miss Bess McGrady, Mrs Komanski and J.W. Williams of Omaha; Mr & Mrs G.E. Piatt, C.A. Moore, Silver City; Mr & Mrs Will Hines of Plattsmouth and H. Diegel of Denver. All the children were present at the funeral.
