- REYNOLDS, ROBERT TODD was born on February 21, 1812, at Fort Malden, Arnherstburg, the son of Commissary General Robert Reynolds of the 34th. regiment in garrison, he was related by marriage to the Hon. Peter McGill, founder of the university. It was from that university that he graduated in the clsss of 1836. He was granted his licence to practice in that year, according to the Upper Canada Gazette of July 14, 1836.
He began to practice his profession in Amherstburg. In 1847 he was gazetted surgeon to the 4th. Battalion of the Essex Regiment.
The Waterloo Chronicle in 1863 carried his card:
R. T. Reynolds M. D. Graduate of the University of McGill, M. C. S. has located himself at the town of Waterloo, Canada West, where he can be consulted at all times on the various branches of his profession. Office in Bowmans Block. Residence in the house lately occupied by Mr. C. S. Martin.
He moved to Berlin, being listed in Maynard Street in Armstrong's Gazeteer of 1877-8. He remained in Berlin until the end of May, 1891 when a notice declared that he was auctioning his household furnishings at his residence on Queen Street, Berlin.
This marked his retirement, as he then moved to Chicago where he resided until his death on February 28, 1897 at 85 years of age. He was survived by his wife, his second, and four children. For some time before his death he was the oldest living graduate of McGill.

__________
The Late Dr. R. T. Reynolds.
The late Robert Todd Reynolds, M.D., whose death occurred in Chicago on Sunday. and who was buried in the Berlin Cemetery on Tuesday, was not only an honor to his profession, but nationally and professionally a figure of interest to many Canadians and Americans who had never seen him. The fact that he was the oldest living graduate of MvGill University, an institution held in the highest esteem by American and European scholars that he graduated therefrom so long ago as 1836, and that he continued to practice up to very recently, contributed to the uniqueness of his character from the professional paint of view. The deceased, who was held in the highest esteem in Berlin, being the soul of honor, was born at Fort Malden, Amherstburg, Essex County, Ontario, February 21st, 1812, amid surroundings which shaped his life and created that intensely British feeling within him which was one of his characteristics throughout his career. He was the only son of Commissary General Robert Reynolds, who was at that time with his regiment, the 34th, in the garrison at the Fort. His mother, who was a daughter of Commodore Bouchette, of the British Navy, at Quebec, was the first wife of Peter McGill, the founder of the Montreal University, the Hon. James McGill being their son. The doctor had two uncles in the British service, one of whom was a Major in the Canadian forces and saw active service in 1812 and 1837. The other uncle, Thomas Reynolds, was an officer in the British Navy. A son of the latter, once Managing Director of the Great Western Railway in Canada, in time became General Manager of the Ottawa and Prescott Railway, and also a director of the Detroit, Grand Haven and Milwaukee Railway, and resided many years at Hamilton before returning to England.
The subject of this sketch, Dr. R. T. Reynolds, was educated in McGill University, obtaining the degree of M. D. in 1896. Shortly after, he became Acting Surgeon of the 84th Regiment at Fort Malden, eventually going into practice in Amherstburg, Ont., his native town, from which place he removed to Berlin and Waterloo, where he was equally successful, and equally respected and admired for his qualities of head and heart. He retired from active work in 1891, removing to Chicago in that year, where he and Mrs. Reynolds have lived ever since with their son-in-law, Mr. R. Mr. Jaffray. The deceased leaves four children, Robert A. and Theresa by his first wife, she was a daughter of Alexander Mcintosh, Earl of Moy, and Laird of Chan Melutosh and Laura, wife of R. M. Jaffray, and Sherman, an employee of the Chicago Record. Mrs. Reynolds, who was a Misa Vavasour Byrne, a native of Newfoundland
also survives him. Galt Reporter.
