Notes |
- Mr. R. Kenning, one of Elmira's first settlers died suddenly at his home in Berlin on Friday. He arose early in the morning and ate a hearty breakfast, after which he cut a little wood, did a few other chores and went into the house. He was about to light his pipe when he fell over dead. The northeastern part of Elmira was surveyed by him. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and we believe the lot on which the Elmira Presbyterian Church is erected was presented to that body by him. He leaves a widow, four sons and four daughters, and was 80 years old.
