  Mayor Frederick Dreger's wife was born Joan Barbara Clarke, the only child of Dr Douglas Clarke of Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey, England (now part of Greater London). She married uncle Maxwell Frederick Hendry on the 17th October 1939 in Kingston, but was reported missing in action on the 24th October 1940 as the pilot of a Blenheim bomber. Known as Barbara, she subsequently met Frederick, also an airman, and they were married in 1941.
