MAPLETON TOWNSHIP - Police have identified a body cottagers found Wednesday at Conestogo Lake.
It is that of Robert Murray Golbeck, 59, of Kitchener. The body was discovered around 4: 15 p.m. about six meters from shore in the area of Road 11 South, Mapleton Township.
Police undertook a search of the lake when Golbeck was reported missing Nov. 29. He was a cottager on the west side of the lake.
Before calling off the search, police found his canoe, life-jacket and paddle in the water. At the time police described Golbeck as an electrician who was single. On Wednesday, the Ontario Provincial Police marine unit recovered Golbeck's body and sent it to Hamilton General Hospital. An autopsy determined that Golbeck died from drowning.
