    • Mrs. James. Dunlop, of Detroit, mother of Mrs. Theo. Sandquist of this city, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eva McIntosh at Seattle, Wash., Saturday, death resulting from a stroke of paralysis. Mrs. Dunlop went to Washington several months ago, trusting that the change in climate would benefit her health. A husband and several sons and daughters survive her. The funeral will be held today at 1 p.m. at the home at Detroit. Burial will be in Bethel cemetery at Moonlight

      Jane Girvan was born in the Parish of Old Cunnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, on March 17, 1848. After the death of her mother in Scotland she moved in 1862 to Galt, Ontario, Canada, with her brothers and sisters, where her father owned a farm. She attended the McGill normal school in Montreal, Canada, and graduated there from in 1865 with an elementary diploma as a school teacher. She did not become actively engaged in teaching but stayed at home with her father until her marriage. She was married to James Dunlop at her father's home in the fall of 1867. Soon after the marriage they went west to Elgin, Illinois, and remained there till after the birth of their son John. From there they moved to Winona, Minnesota, and from there to Knoxville, Tennessee, and came to Detroit, Kan., in 1871. They took up a homestead three miles north of Detroit and have lived within three miles of the old homestead, ever since. In April of the present year she went with her daughter, Mrs. Eva McIntosh, on a visit to Seattle, Wash., where she died on teh 19th day of August, aged 68 years, 5 months and 2 days. One son, Edward J. Dunlop, died January 22 of this year. She leaves her husband, James Dunlop, at the home at Detroit! a son, John Dunlop, and daughter, Mrs. Jessie D. Anderson, Detroit; a daughter, Mrs. Marian Sandquist, of Enterprise, and a daughter, Mrs. Eva McIntosh of Seattle, Washington, and 11 grand children. She became a communicant in St. Andrews' Presbyterian church at Galt, Ontario, Canada, in 1866.
