Notes |
- Another Gone - A very old and much respected resident of Branchton departed this life last week, in the person of Mr. Richard Wilcox. The decreased was born in the County of Lincoln, in 1806. In 1854 he came to South Dumfries and took up farming, and about ten years ago he left his farm and took up his residence in Branchton.
Deceased had passed through troublous times. He joined Wm. Lyon Mckenzie in 1837, and was slightly wounded in the early part of that unfortunate rebellion. Later years largely moderated his views of the wisdom of the step he and others then took, but while reticent as to the cause and object, the reminiscences of those days as detailed by Mr. Wilcox, who was a most entertaining companion, were most amusing. The deceased leaves his aged partner and seven sons and daughters - Mr. James Wilcox, resides in Galt; Rufus, in South Dumfries; John, in London, Ont.; Mrs. Alex Buchanan, Branchton; Mrs. John t. Wait, St. George, and two unmarried daughters residing in Branchton.
