- James Richardson - Ayr Loses One of Its Most Esteemed Citizens - In the death of James Richardson, which occurred on Thursday night after a short illness of La Grippe and pneumonia, the village loses one of its oldest and most esteemed citizens. He was born in Roxburg, Scotland, 88 years ago, and came to Richwood, with his parents, when but a child. On June 6th, 1876, he was married to Elizabeth McCrow, in Paris, by the Rev. McLeod, and celebrated his golden wedding anniversary at the home of Mrs. McCrow, Paris Station, a year and a half ago. He farmed for a few years on the Sixth Concession of Blenheim and from there moved to his late residence in Ayr some 48 years ago. His great love for the late Rev. Walter Inglis prompted this move. He was an elder and Sabbath school teacher in Stanley Street Church for a great many years, and also acted in the former capacity in Knox United Church after the consummation of the union. Deceased was a Christian of sound convictions, faithful in his duties and church membership, and his Godly life and outstanding character have had a great influence on those with whom he came in contact. He is the last member of a family of nine, and is survived by his sorrowing widow, to whom the sympathy of the community is extended in her sad bereavement. A few lines memorized by one of his former Sunday school scholars sum up briefly the rule which governed the life of deceased: "Blessed are they that undefiled and straight are in the way; who by the Lord's most holy law do walk and do not stray." The funeral on Saturday afternoon was attended by many old friends and neighbors. The services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Currie, and the pallbearers were: Messrs. J. W. Currie, A. G. Watson, William Nicoll, Charles McKay, John L. Black and William Manson.
