_______________
On Friday, September 11th, near St. Jacobs, Mrs. James Byers died at the home of her son, in her 82nd year. She was born in Yorkshire, England, in 1832 and came to Canada with her parents when 10 years old. The settled for a short time at Newmarket and then came to Wellesley township. Sixty-one years ago, 1853, she married Mr. James byers of the 4th concession of Peel, where she had resided until about a year ago, when she came to live with her son and daughter near the village. Mr. Byers predeceased his wife some 28 years. Mrs. byers belonged to the long list of courageous pioneer women, who helped to carve out homes in this land of liberty, by honest persevering duty. She is survived by two brothers, Robert in Berlin, Richard in Woodstock, three sisters, Mrs. Armstrong, and Mrs. Brown of Hollen, Mrs. Milner, in Michigan, and also a family of eight children, fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The daughters are Mrs. Honsinger in Peel, Mrs. J. Sanderson, Berlin, Mrs. B. Sanderson, St. Jacobs, and the sons, David in St. Jacobs, Robert, in Elmira, and Richard and Thomas in Edmonton. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Hehn at the house, after which they proceeded to Glenallan, where Rev. Mr. Hislop held a memorial service in the Methodist Church, of which the deceased had been long a devoted member. The pall-bearers were Messrs. J. Bruce, A. Strome, C. Stewart, H. Freeman, A. Farr and b. Switzer.
