    • CRESSMAN, Mary Elizabeth (Brubacher) - Died peacefully at Nithview Community in New Hamburg, Ontario, on April 27, 2009, after a long illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Clare Erb Cressman, on September 19, 1979; two brothers, Elmer Brubacher and Howard Brubacher and sister, Ruth (Brubacher) Cressman; and son-in-law, Raymond Lichty. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy A. Lichti and husband, Wayne Lichti of Elmira; her son, Dennis C. Cressman and partner, Janet Martin, of Calgary; and her daughter, Elizabeth M. Cressman, and husband William Gardner, of Calgary; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; ten nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Mary is remembered as a compassionate woman whose deep faith in God was pivotal; who found great joy in parenting, befriending others, teaching adult Sunday School classes at First Mennonite Church, cooking and baking (especially fresh garden fruit pies), gardening, hand-quilting, playing the organ and piano, and sharing her rich alto voice. She was born at RR 2, Kitchener on the Brubacher family farm on November 7, 1913, and was a graduate of Winter Bible School at First Mennonite Church in Kitchener. Clare and Mary were married on June 10, 1939, and lived in Toronto for a short time before settling in Kitchener, where they raised their family. Mary was in a care-giving role for many years, following Clare's stroke in 1964. In her eighties, Mary developed Alzheimer's Disease, eventually moving to Nithview Community in New Hamburg in 2000. The family extends deep gratitude to all Nithview staff who shared loving care with Mary in her final years of life. People are welcome to visit with the family at Henry Walser Funeral Home , 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, on Thursday, April 30, 2009, from 2-4 p.m., and/or from 7-9 p.m. A funeral service and committal will be held at First Mennonite Church, 800 King Street East, Kitchener (519-744-6574), on Friday, May 1, 2009, at 2 p.m., with a reception to follow in the church hall.
