He taught school at Roseville and Ayr before entering Trinity University, Toronto, where he graduated in 1885. He then visited hospitals in New York before starting to practice in Elmira. He opened his office at the end of July, 1885, and his card was in the Berliner Journal on September 3rd.
George Veitch M. D. C. M., Physician, Surgeon, &c., Graduate of Trinity University, Toronto, Member of College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Office on second floor of J. Ruppel's store where he may be consulted (also at night)
The same paper carried his card on October 15, 1885, but this time it reads St. Jacobs. He next moved to Linwood, but the date is uncertainly May 1887 or before. This was not to be his permanent address however, and the Waterloo County Chronicle of March 23, 1893 announced his departure:
Dr. Geo. Veitch, our local M. D. has disposed of his practice here (Linwood) to Dr. McEachern of Wellesley and intends locating in Port Elgin. Dr. Veitch is a careful and attentive physician and has had good success in his practice here and many regret his departure; we however wish him success in his new field of labor.
One account said he was going into partnership with another physician in Port Elgin, while still another said he would be opening a drug store.
He practised for over twenty years, and died after a lengthy illness on March 18, 1893. He was survived by two sons, one of whom was Dr. Ambert Veitch, and the other was in dentistry, as well as one daughter.
