    • Woods - At Galt, Dec. 29th, Dr. E. R. Woods, son of Jas. Woods, aged 37 years.

      The Waterloo-Telegraph Jan 5 1899 pg 8

      _______________

WOODS, EDWARD R was probably born in Galt in 1862. His father was Mr. James Woods, of Galt.

He graduated in medicine, school unknown, in 1885. He then took postgraduate courses in England, and returned to Canada to start practice in St. Catharines.

The Dumfries Reformer reported on April 5. 1888 that he was settling in Galt, and carried his card in that issue.

      E. R. Woods M D C M, L R C P London, England. Late House Physician and House Surgeon to the General Hospital for sick children Toronto, and House Accoucheur to Burnside Lying-in-Hospital Toronto. Also late of the Hospital for young women, Soho Square London, England. Office hours 9 a. m. and 2 to 7 p.m. Office North Water St. opposite Merchant's Bank Residence Beverley Street.

The next mention was on January 5. 1899 when his death as reported in his 38th. year.

The Dumfries Reformer on that date said: DR. WOOD (sic) DEAD.

Dr. Wood, son of Mr. James Wood, died at his father's residence Thursday morning. Dr. Wood had a brilliant academic course, taking degrees in his profession that stamped him as a man of great possibilities. He filled positions of importance in hospitals, and elsewhere, and in his practice here, was considered exceedingly skillful. Medicine was the profession for which he was fitted and had health and longevity been his, would have reached a gratifying height, and ranked among the best medical authorities of the day. Though of a retiring nature, Dr. Wood was well liked and his death will be deeply regretted. The late Dr. Wood was travelled and cultured. His mind was stored with lore, gleaned from books, and equally interesting knowledge from observation. He had circled the globe and could converse by the hour on what he had seen.
